Specialty Change Request

Admission into a clinical specialty at the Yale School of Nursing is contingent upon a student’s qualifications and fit within the specialty, and is dependent upon available clinical sites, preceptors and other factors. Switching specialty during a student’s enrollment is a rare occurrence but may be granted in a limited capacity for extraordinary reasons. Decisions are also based on consideration of the suitability of the student to the new specialty and if resources and space permit the transfer.

Before submitting this request, students who wish to change specialties should consult with with the Specialty Directors both for the specialty in which the student is enrolled and the specialty they wish to switch into. It is also strongly advised that students consult with the Office of Financial Aid to understand any potential financial implications of changing specialties.

Deadlines:

April 1 for students planning to begin their new specialty in the fall of the following academic year.
Students wishing to start their new specialty in the spring of the same academic year must apply by the end of September.
