To help make this education possible for those future leaders, YSN offers program scholarships to many of the outstanding applicants who demonstrate an outstanding academic record and strong leadership potential in nursing. YSN competitive merit based scholarship aid is awarded through the admissions process. All of our incoming students both domestic and international, are equally considered for aid through a holistic review process. There is no separate scholarship application to be considered for merit-based YSN scholarships.

In addition to merit-based scholarship funding, YSN also awards scholarships to those who demonstrate financial need.  In order to be considered for this type of funding, applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in a timely way. International applicants can also be considered for need-based funding, but must submit a YSN financial aid form to be consider.  Applicants will receive more information via email on these forms and when to submit them.

This exciting new scholarship program provides up to 8 incoming students with complete remission of tuition, fees and health insurance along with an annual stipend of $20,000.  The program seeks to support students who share a commitment to working with underserved communities and reducing health disparities among them. To be eligible, applicants must submit a complete application to any speciality in the on-campus, full-time GEPN or RN-MSN programs, and have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA (or US equivalent) in their primary bachelor’s degree.  Learn more about the Community Scholars Program.

The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan helps cover a student's expenses without requiring a demonstration of financial need. Students can borrow a maximum amount of $20,500 per year. Interest accrues on the loan while the student is enrolled in school and is added to the principal. To apply for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, students need to complete the FAFSA. The Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan is used to help cover a student’s expenses and requires an application and credit check. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need. A student may apply for any amount up to the cost of attendance, less any other financial aid. Private student loans are offered by banks, credit unions, and other lenders. The interest rates and terms are determined by the lender, not YSN. Qualification depends on factors such as credit history, the presence of a co-signer, income. YSN does not endorse or recommend any specific lender, but will process applications from the lender of your choice. It is advisable to explore federal loan programs before considering a private loan. 

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is a program designed to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in underserved communities across the US. Eligible nursing students can receive scholarships, loan repayment programs, and fellowships in exchange for committing to work in designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) after graduation.

Prospective YSN students are encouraged to explore external sources of funding to identify and apply for scholarship opportunities for which they may qualify.  There are many scholarship search portals which can assist you with this search.  A good place to start is the scholarship database maintained by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.  YSN does not endorse any specific scholarship program listed here.

The YSN financial aid office assists enrolled veterans in navigating through their benefit certification throughout their time at the University.  YSN accepts applicants who are eligible for all chapters of the VA benefits including Post-9/11 GI Bill® and Vocational Rehabilitation, and participates in programs such as the Yellow Ribbon Program.  YSN is proud to make a Yale Nursing education accessible to veterans.
