Frequently Asked Questions about NursingCAS

NursingCAS is the centralized application service for nursing, which enables prospective students to easily research and apply to participating nursing schools with one online application.

Beginning with the Fall 2024 entry term, all applications for YSN degree and certificate programs must be submitted via NursingCAS.

To begin a new application, visit NursingCAS to start your application or log into your existing account. Once logged in, visit the Programs List page to add your Yale nursing program of interest and complete the steps to fill out and submit your application. All supporting documentation, including your transcripts, must be submitted to NursingCAS directly. You'll want to carefully consult our application instructions to make sure you fully understand the requirements for whichever program at YSN you are applying to.

Yes. The fee is charged by NursingCAS and collected by them as part of the application process. For the 2022-2023 cycle, the fee was $80 for the first graduate-level program and $50 for each additional program. The fee may change for the Fall 2024 cycle and applicants should check the NursingCAS fee page for the latest information.

NursingCAS maintains a fee waiver program. Beginning at the start of the cycle, a limited number of fee waivers are provided to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. Each fee waiver covers only the initial application fee, so if you wish to apply to additional programs, you are responsible for the remaining balance. If you received a fee waiver during a previous cycle, you may still apply for another in the next cycle.

You may request a fee waiver as soon as you create an application, but keep in mind that fee waiver funds can be quickly depleted. Contact customer service at 617-612-2880 before you submit a fee waiver request to determine if waivers are still available. Visit the NursingCAS fee waiver page for more information.

All transcripts must be sent directly to NursingCAS and can be conveyed by mail or electronically by Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse. Do not send transcripts to YSN unless specifically requesated to by the Office of Admissions. Only official transcripts will be accepted.

For detailed instructions on how to submit transcripts to NursingCAS, please visit the NursingCAS transcript page.

Official test scores are submitted electronically to NursingCAS directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS) using a special NursingCAS code that is different for each program and different from the school's regular code. Do not send test score reports directly to YSN unless specifically requested to by the admissions office.

For detailed instructions on how to submit test scores to NursingCAS, please visit the NursingCAS test scores page.

YSN requires full transcript entry in order to review your application and you must enter all of your coursework. You only need to input this information once, as it can be used for every program you are applying to. Note that different schools/programs have different requirements, and not all schools you are applying to may require full transcript entry.

Verification is the process used by NursingCAS to ensure all of your coursework was entered correctly and consistently. Since credit values, grade values, and course subjects vary widely from school to school, programs need some type of standardization so they can accurately compare applicants. This standardization is achieved by using your coursework to create a standard set of GPAs, ensuring you are compared to other applicants fairly and equally.

Once all of your required application materials are received, your application's status changes to Complete, and your application is placed in line to be verified. Verifications occur in chronological order and can take up to 10 business days to complete. Once your application is verified, you will receive a notification and your application's status will change to Verified.

Note that NursingCAS conducts application verifications and YSN is unable to answer questions about your application's verification process. YSN will only review an application once it has been verified by NursingCAS.

Once you begin your application, you can use NursingCAS to review the status of your application, references, and transcripts directly from the application. The Check Status page will help you track your status. For more information on tracking your application status, visit the NursingCAS application status page.

YSN releases decisions using its own application status portal. Once your application is complete, verified, and brought into the YSN admissions system for review, you will receive login information for a unique YSN application status portal. When your decision is available, you will be instructed via email to log into this portal to view the decision letter and any other important information.
